Muscat to Salalah
Round Trip – The Ultimate Oman
Experience
Adventure Time: 9 days and 8 nights
All meals, camping and hotel
charges included
Day 1:
Starting from Muscat and travelling
south east we drive through the
fishing port of Quriyat, the coastal
village of Tiwi and the ancient
seafaring township of Sur. Our final
destination is Ras al Jinz located
on the edge of the Arabian Sea. Here
we will set camp and you will spend
your first night under the stars
listening to the sounds of the
Arabian Sea. Your camping experience
will include a guided walk along the
sand where you can see giant sea
turtles laying their eggs under the
light of moon.
Day 2:
Your day of discovery will commence
as you travel along the magnificent
Oman coastline where you will see
brilliant white sand beaches. We
will pass through Al Ashkharah, one
of the most beautiful spots on the
east coast, then on to Al Qurun.
From here we will start a
sensational drive across the Wahiba
Sands enjoying spectacular views of
sand dunes and time enough to meet
traditional Bedouin families. Ras Al
Ruways is visually stunning as this
is where the dunes meet the Arabian
Sea. We will set camp on the beach
with plenty of time to enjoy the
refreshing sea waters.
Day 3:
More adventure awaits you today as
we head towards the striking white
cliffs of Ras Madrakah. As we travel
through Film, Al Khaluf and Ad Duqm
you will be amazed at the stunning
coastline. Arriving at the coastal
village of Ras Madrakah view the
cliffs jutting out into the Arabian
Sea with the ship wrecks lying
beneath them. Ras Madrakah
represents the point where the
mainland juts furthest into the
Arabian Sea. Enjoy the natural
contrast of black rocks, white
beaches and deep blue seas. This is
the picturesque spot where we will
set camp for the night.
Day 4:
Our coastal drive continues, today
we will travel past the magnificent
pink lagoons of Al Kahil, then on to
Ras Sawqrah, Shalim and the
spectacular Wadi Shuwayamiah with
its dramatic vertical cliffs of
white limestone. The wadi forms a
huge snaking canyon and is
considered Oman’s largest and
probably most spectacular wadi.
There will be time for a refreshing
swim in the deep permanent pools of
sweet water before heading to the
stunning Ash Shuwaymiyah beach where
we will set camp for the night.
Day 5 & 6:
Today we drive through the oilfields
of Marmul, then on to Thumrayt.
Travelling through the Dhofar
Mountains we will arrive at our
final destination the magnificent
city of Salalah. Your accommodation
while in Salalah will be in a
comfortable hotel.
Salalah offers the visitor an
enormous variety of things to see
and do. The natural beauty of the
surrounding area is breath-taking.
You will witness the stunning view
of dramatic mountains reaching right
to the edge of the Arabian Sea. You
will have the opportunity to
experience wadis and beaches as well
as the springs at Ain Razat and the
caves of Tawi Atayr. There are also
many historical sites of interest
including the ruins of the city of
Samhurum which dates back to 100BC.
Relax on your first day in Salalah
and then the next day we will visit
the tourist attractions you are most
interested in seeing.
Day 7:
Continuing the tour of the Dhofar
region you will be amazed by the
coastal plains and steep mountains
rising to form its backdrop. These
mountains form a large plateau which
is dominated by limestone rocks.
Today we will drive to Al Maghsayl
where we will see the stunning Blow
Holes, then travelling along a
magnificent snaking road through the
mountains to Jabal Al Qamar ‘the
Moon Mountain’. As we continue the
journey north we pass Mudayy and
travel along the side of Ar Rub Al
Khali desert. Tonight we set camp on
the edge of the desert.
Day 8:
Today we travel to Shisr the lost
city of Ubar, called “the Atlantis
of the Sands” by Lawrence of Arabia.
Researchers speculate that the city
may have been the earliest known
shipping center for frankincense.
Then on to Dawkah, Qatbit, Muqshin,
Hayma and Al Gabah where we will
stay overnight at a hotel.
